Dental Careers Institute
The Top dental assisting school in Georgia.
HANDS DOWN. HANDS ON.
In 1987, Dental Careers Institute created the first 10-week dental assisting program of its kind in the country. Now, our approach has spread to every state. Our long history combined with our continually updated and innovative courses ensures that our students leave us ready for real working conditions.
Our founding principle is to provide a complete and comprehensive dental assistant training program, meeting all state requirements while remaining at a reasonable cost to the student.
Dr. Rich Erickson
Our Approach
Our approach sets us apart and makes us the top dental assistant school in Atlanta—we put our students to work in the dental clinic on the very first day. We believe that hands-on experience is more beneficial than a tedious textbook-only approach. After ten weeks, students leave, well-prepared to work chairside.
Success Awaits
Our rigorous courses ensure that our students are prepared for work as soon as they graduate. And our reputation helps many of our students obtain dental assisting jobs before they finish the program.
A degree from DCI comes with options. Students often go on to work as dental assistants, enroll in dental hygiene school—and we’ve had plenty to become dentists as well.
Upcoming Classes
We are now accepting applications for upcoming courses.
Classes usually meet capacity one month prior to the start of the term.
What People Say
Anoosheh
“Today was a free (charity) day at _____ Dental of Marietta, and while there were other students from other schools, I was the only one who participated in the treatment. I just want to say DR E thank you!! The money I spent at your course was well spent. Why? The students from other schools did not know any of the instruments and nothing about the dental procedures being performed. I was the only new assistant that got lots of requests from the dentists there to help them in different procedures. I feel so uplifted and good. Thank you again.”
Amber

“Well, I applied for a job through Dental Post. I had a phone interview, and then went in for a regular interview one week later. They liked me so much they wanted me to come back for a working interview. Normally they wait until they meet 15 applicants before they make that decision. I went yesterday for my working interview and they were already talking like I had the job. I talked with the office mgr. after and she said that she and Dr. J (who I met my first interview) liked me at the moment they met me. They had 67 applicants apply to their posting. Well she had to get back to me on pay, so she called this morning. She said she talked with the girls at the office and they loved me and wanted me to start today. He offers medical, 401k and quarterly bonuses. I work 4 days a week Mon-Fri 8am -5 pm. One day off during the week. No weekends. Yeah!! I am so excited.”

“Hey….. I got an interview today with Dr. K’s office. It is pediatrics and special needs. His two managers interviewed me. I took my FMX chart and my bleach trays and my temp acrylic crown. (even though they don’t normally do that there). They were very impressed with my xrays and that I was well prepared for my interview. They said I was the first one to call and come in, so they said they would tell Dr. K good things about me because they liked me so much. They were so warm and welcoming, they are a close nit working family there and I hope he hires me, I love it already. So he is going to call this week to set up a working interview because he was unable to interview me himself today due to a dental emergency. If i get the job I will be his personal dental assistant, nobody else but me, so if he has to take a special needs child to the hospital for sedation he actually takes me with him into the OR. I am so excited. Thanks you guys so much being such great teachers and friends. I couldn’t have done it without you and Dr. E.”
Kelly

He is very impressed with all of the information I know and has asked me to step up from part time to full time. I cannot thank you enough for helping me achieve my goals and become part of a rewarding career. Maybe when I have more experience, I can help YOU teach 🙂 Keep in touch.”

“I just wanted to let you know that I was offered the job yesterday at the one place I’ve been interviewing at for the past 3 weeks! They had a hard time deciding between me and a 16-yr Dental Assistant, but finally decided they’d rather have me because I was not set in my ways and could be moldable to their needs and style. Thank you for the emails you sent to them, which I’m sure helped in their decision. They paid me for the working interviews, and I will officially start full-time on Monday. The office is only 1.5 miles from my house and I’ll not be spending money on gas/wear-tear on my vehicle and the time savings. I’m working on sending two ladies your way. They are both seriously considering your training, especially now that they see my fast success in landing a job. Thanks again for everything. You are a blessing to me and my daughters for offering this course. I know I told you before, but I need you to know that had it not been for this course, I would not have been able to be a dental assistant due to college costs and time restraints. Your class has literally changed my life and my daughters’ lives for the better. I am excited to be able to get medical insurance for my girls and stop paying out-of-pocket for my insurance premiums. Thank you, a thousand times over!”
Amber

I’ve had three job offers but have denied them due to location and number of hours per week. One of which was Dr. L____! I loved him and was very excited about training as an orthodontics assistant and the starting pay but after further discussion we decided that the distance would more than likely becoming an issue in the future. I have faith that the perfect job for me and my family will come along soon. I’m currently in the online interview process with A____ Dental. Melissa
“I interviewed with a general dentist last year, Dr. _________ he was great. His office staff, his hours, but most importantly, the care that he provided for his patients. I didn’t get the job because he needed someone who had hands on general dentistry experience and at that time, besides instructing, I mostly had endo experience. [she worked for an endodontist following graduation from DCI] His main assistant, became pregnant and had to go on immediate bed rest and they didn’t have time to train a new assistant. However, he was so impressed with what I knew from [Dental Careers Institute] and how I handled myself with his patients during our working interview, he still remembered me after 1 year!! His practice has grown and he wanted to offer me a job before he asked someone else, or looked on Dental Post. This is such a great testament to what a wonderful program that DCI offers and I am so blessed to be a part of it. Oh, the starting pay is $19.00-$21.00 an hour with an increase after probation of 90 days. I thought maybe you would like to share this story with your students.”

“Hello Dr. Erickson, my name is Alesha _____, RDH. I recently met a student of yours here at my office to do shadowing. I was quite thrilled to see she was from your school as I myself am a former student March 1996. I was a DA for 11 years after your classes, I did general, perio, oral surgery and I was pretty darn good if I do say so myself. I have encountered DAs from other, year-long schools that didn’t know half of what I did right out of your school, I was definitely well prepared and thank you. I decided to further my dental career and became a hygienist in 2009. I was so ahead of others in the hygiene program. The student that came here said you all wanted to hear of past students success stories. …well I am one!! And I promise I did not and will not become a prima donna hygienist we were warned about.”

“Hello Dr. E!! It’s been 5 days since graduation and I already worked my first shift. I’m working for an amazing general dentist in Athens. He gave me everything I wanted! The salary, benefits, hours, time off I needed! Thanks for making my first day a success by equipping me with the knowledge and hand skills! Oh and I forgot to mention that I had several job offers. I actually referred Mayson when I had to cancel an interview and she interviewed for that Dr today! So looking good for us Northeastern students!”
