In 1987, Dr. Rich Erickson founded Dental Careers Institute, the first ten-week dental assistant training school in the country. His accelerated, hands-on method proved successful and soon spread across the country. DCI has earned an excellent reputation in the dental community, and since its inception, over 3,000 certified dental assistants have graduated from DCI.
Our founding principle is to provide a complete and comprehensive dental assistant training program that meets all state requirements at a reasonable cost.
The Founder
Dr. Erickson graduated from Miami University with a master’s degree in chemistry in 1971. Upon graduation, he worked for two years as a research scientist at Novartis Pharmaceutical Company. In 1977, he graduated with honors from Case Western Reserve Dental School and went on to serve two years as a Naval Dental Officer.
Dr. Erickson established a private practice in Marietta in 1979. He soon saw the need for a more comprehensive and affordable dental assisting program. He and his staff created the curriculum for DCI, founded the course, and it continues to see success today.
Dr. Erickson enjoys spending time with his family, scuba diving, skiing, and writing.
